The Retail Distribution Review has suggested that only those of "Chartered" or Certified Financial Planner status may use the term Independant.
In order to meet the requirements for Chartered Financial Planner status, candidates require a minimum of 290 credits, of which at least 120 must be from thge Advanced Diploma level and a further 40 thereafter at Dipolma level or above. The balance of credits to reach 290 can come from across the financial planning framework.
Candidates who do not complete the requirements for Chartered Financial Planner status by the end of 2007 will be subject to a requirement to additionally hold the Advanced Diploma unit AF5 (financial planning process).
